Do you ever lay in bed at night and list in your head everything you need
to remember to do, everything you want to eventually get to, and worse, list
all the things you forgot to do that day?
When we cannot "shut off" our brains, we can both suffer the next day from lack of sleep, and also spend those moments right before bed berating ourselves because of forgotten tasks and plans.
If you think you're getting your best sleep those nights, think again.
Of course, Organization is
something we all want and crave. If not, why would there be so much time and
money and thought and products into helping people get organized? If these
ideas are to work for you, you have to WANT IT.
Why do you want to be
organized?
Really, answer this in a complete sentence. Even take the time to write down your answers.
What does being organized mean to you?
If you had more time what would you
fill it with?
How important is that activity to you?
Go ahead, write down your answers.
Really take the time to think about what YOU want out of YOUR life.
There are so many great things in the world and never enough
time to do it all – pace yourself/know yourself. We sometimes have to decide what are the best things, even above just the things we like. This is why we
organize and prioritize. It helps us focus our attention on our goals and plans, even when other distractions come into our lives.
It was through a particularly difficult time in my life that my weekly schedule
and plan came together for me in its current form. When I stick to this plan –
through being pregnant, new babies, sickness, husband out of town, vacations,
relatives staying at my house, etc. – I
am able to just pick up where I left off and move forward.
My favorite reason to organize and plan my life is to make
sure that I get time for myself. If you’re a mom you know full well what having
no time for yourself can do to your outlook on life and happiness. I have loved
being able to use the time I have created in my schedule to be able to renew me
and feel relief once in awhile from all the pressures of life. I need to have
time to pray and be spiritually renewed and time for me in order to feel happy and more
patient with my kids.
Plan time for you. 15 minutes can be carved out. Do it for you. Do it for those you love.
As spring comes to the northern hemisphere in the next few weeks and months, think of your life as at the beginning of a new start. Let your old habits and failings melt away as snow and build new habits that bring beautiful buds of growth and joy to your life.
