Color Code Your Insanity

Last weekend my in-laws were visiting and it was great to catch up and visit. At one point my mother-in-law and I both pulled out our phones to pull up our calendars and check some dates. My MIL started looking through the dates and was reading off things on her busy calendar. At one point she rhetorically asked "what is ....", some item on her calendar that she had no idea what it was nor when she put it in there. We laughed.
Later, something was said about how using different colors for different areas of our life is so helpful. My MIL said, "yeah, it's all color coded, even though it's crazy!" and I said, "color code your insanity!"

Today is all about color coding your insanity.
Pink is all my personal tasks and calendar items; my 'others' color is purple, so I have 2 different shares - friends and church (the Amber & Heather calendar is the calendar I share with my girlfriend - she's a friend, so it's purple); all education/learning activities are green; family is blue, but to distinguish my personal family from my extended I use different shades of the same color on my calendar. (The Spencer Family calendar is an extended family calendar that I sync with - extended family is the same color across the board.)

What is color coding? Color coding is when you have different colors for different grouped areas of your life. You would have a color for items pertaining to you, a different color for your family, another color for those outside your family - others. You might have a color for education or learning activities or a color for your work schedule or tasks.
Using my color coding system in my tasks means that things are seamless across all devices.

Why color code? When you have your tasks, calendar items and activities color coded and grouped together, it helps you in a few ways. 1) It makes it easier and faster for your brain to recognize where an activity fits into your schedule or day. 2) It makes it easier to plug in certain tasks and know which day and time to put something in your schedule. 3) Color coding across all your devices will help your planning sessions go faster.
The same idea can be applied to this great app called Google Keep. It works on all devices and I really like that you can set up reoccurring tasks and just one time notes. You can also color code this app and help yourself to see, at a glance, the things you are working on in different areas of your life.

When you can see at a glance all the different areas of your life, you can also see where you are spending the most time, where you could spend more time and figure out your true desires for where you want your life to go. You are in charge. Tell your life where to go and create that life - and color code all the insanity that is your life.
