Several. So many.
Here is our current filing system. It is working well and it is so simple that everyone can do it.
We put everything that is done being handled here in this black file box - paid bills, occasion cards, anything that we need to/want to keep, but we are done handling.
Once a month I get a reminder on my task list to clean this out. I put all the occasion cards we want to keep in a place for me to sort and put together for my kids to be able to look through.
All the bills and medical information and bank statements and anything else we need to keep in our file cabinet. Our file cabinet isn't by the computer that we use on a daily basis, so this is the system that works for us. I'm certain you can find or have already found a system that works for you. Use what works. We use this because I just wasn't filing every single piece of paper on a daily basis. It's nice to have a place to put items we are done with without it piling up on the desk. If it's in this box, I can just be mentally done with it until it's time to file.
I have a different colored file folder for each child and one for myself. This one file box holds all our current paperwork - sports schedules/information, school information, therapy notes, school calendars, eyeglass prescriptions, club information, etc. Anything that we need to lay our hands on quickly and is still relevant goes in these files. If we no longer need it, it goes in the box above unless I can simply throw it away. I can keep things pretty slim when I put it in my tasks to clean these out every few months. Throw out anything that is no longer relevant and things are kept under control for every member of the family. It is extremely helpful that my children know which folder is theirs and can access their information, if needed.
After years of trying different systems, these are the ones I have stuck with the longest. Simple is best for me because I can easily keep up with simple.
What do you do to organize all those important papers and statements that come into your house?
