We often feel overwhelmed and pulled in every direction, yet when someone comes asking for help or we find a "great idea" on social media, we don't pause to think about what this new commitment means to our already full schedules. Often, it is a great idea and we can fit it in, but taking the time to really think about what it will mean you sacrifice in place of the new idea is critical to not experience burn out.
When I first thought about starting this blog, I was overwhelmed. I loved the idea of helping people, but when was I supposed to fit that in? It wasn't until I sat down with my calendar and my desires for this blog and actually scheduled some time on my calendar and created some tasks lists for myself that I actually felt like I could manage things - both the new and the old. Sometimes we have to let new things into our lives after much thought and serious consideration about what you truly have to give and what you truly want to give.
If you are asked - even by family - to take on another responsibility, you MUST consider what that truly takes from you and other parts of your life. It may be no big deal, but it may create undo stress and guilt. If you cannot decide about a project right away, ask for a day (week, month) to think about it. You will be able to sort through your thoughts and feelings about the tasks itself and what it will bring to you or take away. It might be perfect and just what you are looking for. Just take a minute to truly think things through.
