How do you keep from becoming the empty cup?
We all have ways that recharge and refresh us. Get in tune with what recharges you and set aside time for you to do just that. What fills me and helps me refocus on the most important things can be different from day to day or year to year. That is okay. The important thing is that, a) you schedule in time to spend 10 or 15 minutes doing something for you every day, & b) that you intentionally choose something that will renew you that day.
I really like to wake up before my children and spend time in peace and quiet. I feel grounded and ready for the moment I hear the first door open and the demands (and more frequent polite requests) for breakfast and help begin.
However, if I do not wake up earlier than the kids, I might plan to escape for 5 or 10 minutes during the day. I have done everything from just laying on my bed doing nothing until I am found and pounced upon by my children to turning up some music and dancing around the room. You can make a phone call, walk outside in the sunshine, roll around on the ground, read one chapter of a book, write a quick journal entry, paint your nails, pray, take a bath, pull weeds in the garden, nap, go for a bike ride, work on a craft or sewing project, have lunch with a friend, watch a movie (even in pieces), and anything else that will fill your cup.
It might be helpful to make a running list that you can add to and pull from when you feel in a rut.
You know what helps you most. Choose something today and fill up your cup!
