Sometimes when you experience something new, it can throw you for a loop. When my children first started playing more sports and we would sometimes be gone for several hours over dinner time, it was tricky to figure out how to feed everyone (including those playing the sports) and still make everyone feel full and happy without having to eat out. We didn't do anything life-changing, but for me it was nice to feel like I could pack up dinner and take it with us, no matter what it was and still enjoy the different sports my children wanted to participate in.
My solution was these sectioned plastic containers that are used ONLY during game season and ONLY for eating dinner in the car or on the field. I can pack them up individually and the lids have the names on them and so it is easy to pass the portion made for the 4-year-old to her and not have her brother eat her food and still be hungry. I can put the main dish, sides and/or a dessert. I stack them in a large insulated bag with a handle and wheels, throw a few ice packs in and we're ready for dinner out.
Whatever your new experiences, start thinking of what would make the situation better for you and your family and plan ways to make those things happen. At least most of the time.
What can you be creative with this year and change the feel of an activity that used to bring you dread?
