Holidays

My idea of a good tradition is one that can be done even in the midst of throwing up while pregnant, having a new baby, or when I haven't slept in 12 days.
Basically, I like to keep traditions and our holiday celebrations pretty simple. However, sometimes I still like a reminder of what it was that we did last year or our favorite things to do on a summer night as a family.
That is why I added the "Holidays" folder to my task list. It reminds me when I need to buy fireworks and that I really wanted to find time to fly the kites. It reminds me to crepe paper my children's doors for their birthdays and that I need to put our favorite Halloween books at the library on hold. Everything from collecting leaves on fall walks to mixing up some "Magic Christmas Cocoa" can be put into my folder and forgotten about until my task list reminds me. (Christmas Cocoa is the name my mom used to call sugar-overloaded hot chocolate on Christmas Eve....and my children LOVE it! That's how you get visions of sugar plums to dance in your head, don't you know?)

Now, I know that many of you will not want to be reminded. Be okay with that.

I like to be reminded and then look at how things are going that week or month. If we have time, great. If the house and life seems to be falling apart, then that task is easily saved for next year. Or in five years. But I do not have to try to remember and that eases my brain immensely.

How do you do holidays?
