In the past week our family has started back to school, gone on work trips, and have had several sport practices and games. It has felt very fun and very full. And at a few moments, slightly overwhelming.
This school year, I decided to give myself some time to catch up. All summer I have felt it was more important to play with my kids and make fun memories than to deep clean anything. Yesterday was my first full cleaning day with the kids back to school. Part of me wanted to jump in and tackle all the things I had neglected around the house and part of me felt like there was too much to catch up on.
So, I took a middle road. Doing a little bit of something is better than nothing. Yesterday I dusted and cleaned my ceiling fan. That was my big contribution to cleaning the house. I had the kids clean a few baseboards and that was the extent of the deep cleaning that went on.
When you are feeling like there is too much on your shoulders, take a deep breath and remember that you control the task list. It is okay to not get to everything, all the time. But doing something for 5 minutes can make a world of difference.
By the time Christmas break is here, I hope to feel back on top of deep cleaning. But for now, I am content just doing a little bit each week, working with the time I have and not worrying about getting it all done today.
