Stick To It!

The last few weeks have been....off.
I got sick, sick, sick for the first time in about 3 years over Thanksgiving. The very next week, just as I was starting to feel better, I sprained my ankle and was told to "stay off it". I needed to ask my kids for extra help around the house because two of those last few weeks my husband has been gone.

The last few weeks my kids have done way more extra everything - cleaning, cooking, laundry, picking up - around the house than normal. And it's been just fine. I am so grateful for the hours and hours of time I had put into giving my children chores, following through with those chores and, sometimes, "forcing" them to learn life skills. And guess what? They were proud of themselves, too! They have not always been cheerful about being asked to help out a little extra around the house these last few weeks, but they were able to pull together and get things done, and even figure out how to do some new things. It has given me a chance to know where they still need some training and learning and where they have things down pretty pat.

So, even though you may get kick back every single time it is chore time or you are trying to teach a new skill to your children, do not give in. They will be so grateful one day that they know how to do basic things and you may need them to use their skills sooner than you think.
