Finding a home and a place for everything is a lot easier when you decide that everything will not be stored on the floor. Be very selective about what you are storing on the floor. There are so many baskets and hooks and shelves out there - find something that works in your space and determine the living space for your items.
If you have a pile of things that needs to head to the thrift store, make a note on your errand day and clear that pile away sooner than later. If you have a stack of papers or books you are finished with, make it a priority to clear it out and put things where they go. And if you have baskets of laundry that now basically live on your living room floor, remember that you get to decide if they get put away correctly or continue to clutter up your space.
Pick things up off the floor and discover what a difference it brings to your home to have some floor space cleared, at least from the things YOU put there. :)
