Every Monday as I go around my house cleaning up and trying to deep clean a spot or two, I am always grateful for the preparation that got me to this point so much quicker. It is the simple things that really do make a difference.
Sunday night, as we are readying for bedtime and mentally preparing for another week, we take some time to clean up. Most often it is the children who get sent to pick up forts and stuffed animals and toys and chairs they have used to create some entertainment with while I am cleaning up the kitchen or putting things away that we have been too busy or too lazy to clean up properly. In the end, just setting a timer for 10-20 minutes (depending on the amount of craziness in the house) and having everyone pitch in until it is tidy is the best way to prepare for cleaning day.
And, honestly, for any day.
Cleaning day is for cleaning, not picking up children's toys and attending to things that can be dealt with in a few seconds. Do yourself a favor and prepare the night before for the next day. Especially on a day when you want to really get something done.
Truly how our house looks on lazy weekends. Let them be kids....and then make them clean it up when it is time to be done.

Nice fort! And nice plan.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great reminder, Amber. Ideally I would do this Saturday night too, at least in the kitchen and main living areas. I get really anxious on Sundays if the house is messy. Which doesn't make for a peaceful Sabbath!
